Birthday!

Yup its my Birthday. I just turned 35. Its been a weird and wild year since the last one.

I’m not sure how I feel about turning another year older and uglier. So much has (and hasn’t) happened since my last turn around the sun.

Two years ago I wrote the following on this here blog:

I have been hunkering down, reflecting on the year so far. Thinking about short medium and longterm goals. Its nice having a birthday in the middle of the year-ish as it allows you a natural time in the year to review your new years goal list and tack towards the things that are achievable given the amount of year left.

The same is true this year I think. I’m going to spend the next week with old and new notebooks. Reviewing the New Years and Mid Year plans from previous years and set up a new list of priorities for the remainder of 2020. The medium term goals from that post in 2018 have now become short term plans on the timeline..

Quite a few of the cascading intervening steps to realise those goals haven’t materialised. Even if they have, they came though in odd places and presented as other opportunities. Some roads taken other briefly explored.

The biggest difference between today and the last two birthday posts is that I am no longer drowning under a blanket of depression. I know who I am and what I want from life a lot better than I did 2 years ago. I have a much greater application for graft and craft. Discipline is not a word i’ve been very familiar with until now.

It doesn’t matter who you are or what you do. In general I think things only materialise if you put the effort in. (Unless you are a feckless member of the upper classes of course).

Eve got me a fancy new Mic stand as the cheap “Good enough” Chinese one self destructed before Christmas.

I’m also waiting on the new 9th Edition Warhammer 40,000 Collectors Edition Rulebook. Though I suspect I won’t see it until we get back from Kent on Monday. Might do a review.

This Episode features more continuing adventures in sound design and field recording. Pleased with how it turned out. Only two more weeks until Episode 100.

Lockdown Week 19

Despite mandatory facemarks in shops coming in yesterday, it really no longer feels like we are in the middle of a pandemic. I’m seeing a lot of complacency out and about. Mostly in boomers Tbh. SMDH.

I haven’t seen any anti mask bullshit in real life. But then again I haven’t been out and about that much. We’ll see.

Update From The Island

I see from the photo album that eve was hanging out with the gang this week.

And this happened this morning *Does ACNH’s love emote*

The Ministry Of My Own Labour

I’ve nearly finished the commission about being a teenaged conspiracy theorist. I’m a day behind schedule/plan. I’m going to take my laptop home with me this weekend but I might just be kidding myself that I’m going to get any work done. I may be too full of vegan birthday cake.

Finally moved over to using quotebacks on the blog. I like em a lot. Very indieweb. You should use them too.

Reading

I finished Bren Smiths ‘Eat Like A Fish’ whilst out in the garden in the sunshine earlier this week.

Eat Like A Fish

I’m not sure why I put it down. Its such a good autobiography. Anyone interested in regenerative agriculture should check out this book. He’s had an extremely colourful life from leaving school at 14 to work the boats in Alaska, to seizures, to pioneering Zero Input Ocean Farming. The chapter on having to meet rich people/investors for his non-profit Greenwave are hilarious.

Music

100 Gecs remix album ‘1000 Gecs and the Tree of Clues’ dropped earlier this month. (I think) its better than the original version. Its both extremely 2020 contemporary and also gestures towards the sound of the future of pop. Which if this album is anything to go by sounds like DISTORTION.

The opening AG COOK remix sets the tone of the album
