Issue #011 – NOTICING
Noticing is a solo mapping game encouraging mindful exploration.
The goal isn’t to travel far, but to observe deeply.
This issue contains another ‘Quiet Quest‘ I’ve designed. I’m really happy how it’s turned out. big thanks to Paul Czege for giving the draft rules a once over and asking some valuable/obvious questions as feedback.

The zine is now 18 months and 6 issues into the ‘new’ layout/format. When you see them all together I think it’s starting to look pretty cool. Though I should probably stop calling this the ‘new’ format, as there’s now been more issues in A8 than not!
Long time subscribers, I hope, like me appreciate an ever growing collection of things that have a coherent aesthetic and design sensibly.
Each issue I’ve tweaked and improved things as I’ve got more to grips with Affinity Publisher and I’m pleased with the line spacing in the encounter tables in for this issue.

Coming Up!
Issue #12 will be massive! An A6 zine in two parts.
Each 44-ish page Zine will be feature a heavy card cover and stapled binding. As a two sided Issue. 12.a/12.b will each contain a long format non-fiction essay.
Side A: Will feature the complete text of my essay Abracadabra. Originally written for the students of ‘Writing the Impossible Object’ the writing course at The New Centre I taught on. Audio of this essay will be going out as a bonus episode on Permanently Moved.
Side B:‘The Most Impossible Object’ is a personal essay reflecting on the development of my journaling practice over that decade. I cover narrative therapy and Jungian archetypes, parts work, and explain why I consider SoloRPG journaling games to be at the bleeding edge of games design.
The Most Impossible Object is a very ambitious essay, making the case that SoloRPG journaling games are a Jungian psychotechnology. I hope it will contribute to the ongoing public conversation about Solo Journaling Games that Paul started about with his own two zines: The Ink The Bleeds, and Inscapes.
Both issues will be available to purchase individually or as a bundle from my upcoming web store, launching on the blog soon after release. Pricing will be £9 each or £15 for both (+ P&P).
Already a subscriber? You’re all set – both zines will be mailed directly to you as part of your regular subscription.
